Ingredients

  • 3 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 3 cinnamon sticks
  • 3-5 whole cloves
  • 5-7 whole allspice berries
  • zest of 1 orange
  • 2 whole eggs
  • 3 egg yolks
  • 3/4 cup spiced rum
  • 1/4 cup orange liqueur
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream

Instructions

  1. Heat milk, 1 cup of cream, sugar, salt, spices, and orange zest over medium heat until warm. Let it steep for 30 minutes.
  2. Strain out the spices and zest, then return the milk to the pot. Whisk in the eggs and yolks and heat until slightly thickened.
  3. Strain the mixture, then stir in spiced rum and orange liqueur. Refrigerate for at least 24 hours.
  4. When ready to serve, whip the remaining cream to soft peaks and whisk into the eggnog.
  5. Serve cold, garnished with grated nutmeg and a sprinkle of apple pie spice.
