Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup hot water
  • 1 stick cinnamon
  • 6 cloves
  • 2 oz whiskey or bourbon
  • 4 teaspoons smoked simple syrup
  • 2-3 dashes Black Walnut bitters
  • Tiny pinch of fleur de sel or flake salt

Instructions

  1. Make the simple syrup by whisking sugar and hot water until the sugar dissolves, then adding cinnamon and cloves and placing the mixture into a shallow baking dish in a preheated smoker for two hours.
  2. Remove the smoked simple syrup from the smoker, let it cool, and store it in a jar.
  3. In a cocktail shaker, combine the whiskey, smoked simple syrup, and Black Walnut bitters, then stir to combine.
  4. Pour the mixture into an Old Fashioned glass over a large ice cube.
  5. Finish by sprinkling a tiny pinch of salt over the cocktail.
