Ingredients

  • 1.50 tbsp sugar
  • 1.50 tbsp lightly packed basil sprigs
  • 1.50 cups peeled, chopped cantaloupe melon
  • 2.67 tbsp fresh grapefruit juice
  • Vodka (optional)
  • Ice

Instructions

  1. In a small heatproof bowl, pour 1/2 cup boiling water over sugar and basil; stir until sugar has dissolved.
  2. Let the syrup cool completely, about 20 minutes.
  3. Strain the syrup into a blender, discarding the basil.
  4. Add cantaloupe, grapefruit juice, and 1 3/4 cups cold water to the blender and blend until smooth.
  5. Strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve.
  6. Serve over ice, garnished with a basil sprig, or refrigerate in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
  7. If using vodka, stir a shot (1-ounce) into each glass before serving.
